| Summary: | The cargo plane, transporting heating fuel, crashed about seven miles southwest of Fairbanks International Airport, where it had just taken off from. The aircraft lost altitude and crashed, sliding into a steep hill on the bank of the Tatana River and catching fire.One of the engines caught fire as the crew attempted to return to the airport. A loss of power of the No. 1 engine for reasons that could not be determined, and the incorrect installation of a B-nut fitting in the propeller feathering system, which allowed engine oil to spray onto the exhaust system when the propeller was feathered following the loss of engine power. |
